Indian Motorcycle is an American motorcycle company founded in 1901. It was one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the United States before closing its doors in 1953. However, the brand was relaunched in 2011 by a group of investors who bought the rights to the brand.

The first Indian motorcycle, the Indian Single, was produced in 1901. It was developed by George Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom, two bike-enthusiast friends who were looking to create a faster and more powerful alternative to pedal bikes. The motorcycle was a huge success and Indian quickly began producing other models, including the Indian Twin in 1907, which became one of the brand's most popular models.

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Indian continued to grow and innovate, launching models such as the Indian Chief and Indian Scout. These motorcycles were used by police and military, as well as for speed competitions. Indian was also one of the first manufacturers to use disc brakes on its motorcycles.

Despite its success, Indian began to experience financial difficulties in the mid-1940s. The brand was sold several times, but continued to lose money. In 1953, Indian was forced to close its doors.

The Indian brand was relaunched in 2011 by a group of investors who bought the rights to the brand. Since then, Indian has relaunched several of its most popular models, such as the Indian Chief and Indian Scout, and continued to innovate by developing electric models and cutting-edge technology. The brand has become popular among motorcycle enthusiasts and is now considered one of the most prestigious American motorcycle brands.
